Dr Emily Noel (Emily's lab website) and I visited Y5/6 and Y6 at St Wilfrid's Primary School last week for Science Week. We had a great time talking about the use of flies and zebrafish in biomedical research. It was lovely to see such enthusiasm for science and the children really loved seeing the fish and flies in the flesh. Here are some pictures they drew from an activity designed to teach them about how gene sequences can determine the characteristics of organisms. Thanks to Mr Marshall and Mrs Clements for letting us come in. Watch out, some of the mutant flies and fish are a bit scary!
