We are excited to announce that a funded postdoctoral research associate position has now been advertised for our lab! The position will last for 9 months and will be to investigate the control of macrophage behaviour in the developing fly embryo. We are hoping to recruit a candidate who has previously worked with flies and has good molecular biology skills, but anyone interested should feel free to get in touch. A passion for live imaging and/or previous experience in transcriptional profiling would also be an advantage. Please contact Iwan for more information ([email protected]). Visit www.sheffield.ac.uk/jobs and search for UOS019523. The closing date is 16th July. The job is also advertised on jobs.ac.uk. We are part of the Bateson Centre at the University of Sheffield and in the Department of Infection, Immunity and Cardiovascular Diseases (IICD).

A little late but Dr Emily Noel had another amazing day sharing our science and the work of the Bateson Centre with pupils from Y5 and Y6 at St Wilfrid's and St Thomas of Canterbury back in March as part of Science Week. Got a huge range of really amazing questions and did some fun activities learning about how the sequence of DNA can lead to changes in what fish and flies look like. Also visited Y1 the following day and equally amazed at their questions and thirst for Science. Here is a montage of some of the fantastic mutant flies and fish our budding future scientists drew. Big shout out for Crazy Dave and Edward the fly, my 2 personal favourites!
